Wellness Open Living Labs (Woll), co-founded by the Japanese pharmaceutical company Eisai, and Osaka City University concluded a collaboration agreement in July 2017. They will create a center dedicated to the development of new technologies and centered on science-related problems, such as dementia, and extending healthy life expectancy.
A center for the analysis of health data and dedicated to health tech
On the basis of this agreement, Woll and Osaka University will analyze health data, mobilize human resources, such as researchers involved in the resolution of health problems, encourage the development of the latest advanced technologies and academic research related to health problems such as dementia, and verify and commercialize solutions.
Eisai will cooperate with local governments and healthcare professionals
Through its experience in the developing and marketing in the field of dementia treatments, Eisai has obtained the cooperation of various stakeholders in the sector, including local governments, healthcare professionals and and care workers, and is working to create communities where people with dementia can live peacefully.
The Woll will deploy solutions that meet the needs of an aging population
The Woll is the first limited liability company co-established by Eisai to develop and provide healthcare solutions. The company aims to externalize medical and care problems rooted in communities and to study, deploy and verify solutions that meet the needs of the population. It is funded by 15 entities which support its objectives.
Osaka University aims to strengthen collaboration between industry, academia and government
For its part, Osaka University is seeking to strengthen collaboration between industry, academia and government as well as regional contribution activities in the field of health sciences, and based on a « basic collaboration agreement relating to extending healthy life expectancy » concluded with Osaka City in February. The university acts as a « think-tank » with the aim of extending healthy life expectancy in the Japanese city.
