In late October 2017, Nokia signed a memorandum of understanding with Singapore-based St Luke’s Eldercare (SLEC). The goal of this alliance is to co-develop and conceptualize innovative solutions for the elderly.
As part of this partnership, Nokia and SLEC will trial Asia’s first fall prediction video analytics application. The video analytics technology developed by Nokia Bell Labs has been used to create a continuous and unobtrusive monitoring system to determine the probability of an elderly person falling.
Analyzing walking speed and the environment of the elderly to limit the risk of falling
Specifically, the device analyzes various information, including the walking speed of the user, gait width and step width, etc. The system will send an alert when there is an increased risk of falling.
As an aged-care service provider with an extensive network of senior care centers around Singapore, SLEC’s role will be to provide guidance and feedback on the software development process.
A platform to monitor patients remotely
The application will be integrated into Nokia’s IMPACT IoT platform to enable the caregivers to view and collect patient health information from the solution and other sensors that the elder is using.
